Grant Conditions

1) The project must provide support to those working with people with special needs (in one of the strategic countries listed on the MAITS website, and/or otherwise agreed with MAITS).
2) MAITS must be satisfied with the proposed VOP's qualifications, experience and/or record.
3) A grant form must be completed in full and submitted to MAITS for assessment.
4) The VOP must apply to register with MAITS to be considered for the grant, which includes attending a MAITS information day.
5) The VOP must use best reasonable efforts to make contact with other relevant disability organisations in the local area during his/her trip, with the aim of enabling the largest possible number of people to benefit from the VOP’s input.
6) The Volunteer must use his / her best reasonable efforts to complete their project in accordance with the agreed aims and objectives.
7) Upon return, the VOP must provide MAITS with a full report of the work carried out by him / her on the project, using the MAITS report guidelines. The VOP(s) may be asked to present at a MAITS day and/or to attend a meeting to discuss their project outcomes and plans for future input. They will also be expected to hand over to future volunteers going out to the same project. All materials developed on the project will also be shared with MAITS.
8) Receipts must be provided by the VOP to MAITS (on request) in order to claim back any expenses previously agreed by MAITS.

Grant Assessment Criteria
Organisation level
1) Evidence of partnership with local organisation/Institute and proposal arrived at jointly, demonstrated through accompanying letter.
2) Evidence that the organisation/Institute is considered a Centre of Excellence or is locally recognised and thus has the ability to support capacity-building in other organisations within their local network.
Project level
1) Evidence of proposed input being responsive to local needs and that these cannot be accessed at a local/regional level.
2) Proposal involves knowledge & skills sharing/ transfer with local professionals and workers. Emphasis is on training and capacity building through joint working and/or formal teaching (eg workshops, courses, lectures).
3) Proposal involves empowerment of local workforce (e.g. through train the trainer programmes, co-presenting with local professionals/staff).
4) Grant application does or could forward MAITS Mission and Strategic Objectives.
